MHI and Carnival Corporation & plc agree on the construction of two 125, 000-ton cruise ships for AIDA Cruises

Tokyo, 3 August 2011 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.. (MHI) announced today that the company has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), with Carnival Corporation & plc for the construction of two 125, 000-ton cruise ships for AIDA Cruises. The ships will be the largest ever built for the cruise company.

The delivery of the two ships - they will each hold 3, 250 passengers - is scheduled for March 2015 and March 2016. The MoA is subject to definitive agreements, financing and other customary closing conditions.

These two AIDA ships mark a return by Carnival Corporation & plc to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which built two highly successful ships for Princess Cruises. Both were delivered in 2004.

Carnival Corporation & plc is a portfolio of ten brands that operate in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia - including Princess Cruises and AIDA Cruises - the largest cruise company in the world. Overall, the Group operates 101 ships with ten new ships, whose delivery is planned at about 2012 and 2016.
